Struggling Green Deal: it would take 160 years to survey all homes in the UK

Uptake of energy efficiency measures under the government's flagship Green Deal remain woefully low as the scheme continues to struggle. With just 13,000 homes a month being assessed, it could take 160 years to survey all the homes in the UK. Figures released by the Department of Energy and Climate Change show that 72,210 Green Deal assessments were completed during the first seven months of the scheme. However, the number of assessments taking place dropped by 559 from July to August. WSP director David Symons said: '[There] isn't anywhere near enough scale to make [the Green Deal] the transformative programme it could be. The government needs to up the ante to make this scheme a success, something we all want to happen.' Only a dozen homes have completed the process and had energy efficiency measures installed.
