Cowper Griffith completes flood-resilient house on Norfolk coast

Cambridge-based Cowper Griffith Architects has completed a 453m~2 house in Burnham-Overy-Staithe, a coastal village in North Norfolk. The flint and timber-clad, three-storey house stands within a coastal flood plain on a slope that rises from the shore of the River Burn. An open undercroft leads to the main entrance hall on the 'flood-resilient'lower ground floor, with a basement cut into rising ground adjacent to a garage and boat store. Raised above flood zone levels, the ground floor houses five guest bedrooms arranged along the southern wall, with the master bedroom projected towards the sea within the T-shaped plan.
