摘要

Fabric produced and dyed on site is woven through forgotten weinds (narrow lanes), yards and alleys to create shelter for a craft market and fashion show that celebrate Preston's textile heritage and creative future. The history of Preston is woven in cotton. As a giant of the textile industry during the industrial revolution, many of the city's iconic buildings are said to be 'built on cotton'. From the first mill in 1777, cotton manufacturing became Preston's largest employer, with over 80 per cent of the population dependent on the industry at its peak. The art of'making' is experiencing a renaissance; people are returning to traditional crafts and experiencing the satisfaction of the creative process. Sharing these hand-made and truly original products with the public has seen the emergence of pop-up shops, lending a new lease of life to troubled high streets.
