Roof-to-column junction

Two folds into the landscape form the new visitor centre: one folds up, displacing the volume to house the centre, and the second folds down to veil the car park from view along this unique protected stretch of the Antrim coastline. The edges of these folds are formed from a series of extruded basalt columns from the same flow that created the Giant's Causeway. Steel tension rods and alignment dowels are incorporated between each piece of stone to maintain the basalt columns in permanent compression. As the visitor moves towards the causeway, the columns merge together, like the columns that construct the Antrim coastline.
