The sky view corner windows capture east and south light by peeking out from the roof and bringing light into the living spaces below. They are to a scale that reflects the geometry of the existing cottage's stone gable end and are defined by the changing angles of the interior walls and the fall of the roof, each having slight changes in size and shape orientated to track the sun. All openings were measured, templated and the windows constructed off-site in two pieces before being lifted onto the lower roof deck and inserted into the readymade apertures. The Douglas fir frames and iroko sills were pre-mortice and tenon jointed, then glued and screwed together on site with the key corner post tying each side together to make a whole.
