The perforated panels that form part of the balustrade along the external access walkways at first-floor level are arranged in a Flemish bond with a third of the headers projecting.by 56.25mm (1/4 brick) and two thirds having been omitted to let light into the walkway areas. The brickwork is supported on a steel angle at the bottom and tied back with wall ties to the roof edge beam and two hidden vertical 80x80mm SHSs behind the panel. The stack bonded upper edge of the panel is supported by a lintel resting on the vertical edges of the perforated panel which, like the upper edge and base of the panel, is 215mm-deep unlike the 102.5mm-deep centre piece of the panel. The base of the panel which hides the floor slab behind and is only visible from the outside is constructed with black bricks, whereas the Flemish bond above is constructed with the same red bricks as the majority of the development.
