London Chilean architect Smiljan Radic's much-anticipated Serpentine Pavilion in Kensington Gardens has opened. The 170m~2 pavilion made from fibreglass resembles a semi-translucent shell resting on large stones and took six weeks to construct on site. The doughnut-shaped, open-plan interior includes a cafe and events space. The pavilion's design was drawn from Radic's earlier work Castle of the Selfish Giant - a studio model featuring a thin shell structure which was inspired by an Oscar Wilde novel.
