The material choices of the Gateway Pavilions were influenced by the peninsula's industrial heritage: iron, steel, bronze, copper and brass were all made there. As steel-framed buildings, the details pick up on this variety of metalwork, with a brass fascia and balustrade, copper cladding along with other metals utilised for the soffit and the wall linings. The high-performance curved glazing was specified to create a rich interplay of transparency and reflectivity. The specification responds to the orientation, with higher reflectivity to the south and clearer glass to the north.
