WINNERS OF THE RIBA NORTH WEST REGIONAL AWARDS

A 'rigorous Modernist villa', a huge rock-like scheme on Liverpool's waterfront and an ultra-low cost school were among the eight winning projects in this year's RIBA NorthWest Regional Awards. Chosen from a shortlist of 15, the winners also included MUMA's 'international standard' reworking of theWhitworth Gallery in Manchester, which went on to pick up the region's top accolade, the Building of the Year Award (see Building study, AJ 20.03.15) The temporary Maggie's Centre by Carmody Groarke, which was handed the AJ's 2015 Small Projects Award (AJ 19.03.15), received further recognition, picking up the North West's Small Projects gong. Dave King, RIBA NorthWest regional jury chair, commented: 'The 2015 North West Awards showcases a diverse range of buildings, from small to large, temporary to permanent, education to corporate and large-scale housing to private residences of exceptional quality.'
