ESHER HOUSE

Blue bricks, concrete and mahogany make upthe materials palette for this modestfamily home, set in a garden in Esher, Surrey. Thecolours of thefacade have been selected to offsetthe green of the surrounding landscape. The house was designed fora product designerand his young family, and consists of two elements: a triple-height cube volume housing the living spaces; and a long, single-storey block where the bedrooms sit low, looking out to the garden. The orientation of the house is set to catch the sun at particular times of day. Mornings seethe bedroom terraces flooded with light, and in the afternoons the light movestothe living room and dining room terrace.
