Chapman Taylor's overseas fee income exceeded that of its three UK offices after a strong global performance in 2017. New openings in Dubai and Chiasso in Switzerland brought its total of overseas offices to 13, plus two associate offices. Total architectural fee income rose by 19.4 per cent to £35.98 million, with overseas offices accounting for £18.59 million of this, compared with £14.12 million in the previous year. UK fee income rose slightly from £16.01 million to £17.39 million and the practice edged up a place in the rankings after adding two more UK architects to reach 73, a figure overshadowed by its 195 overseas architects. In 2017 the 59-year-old practice broke into new markets with its first work in Uzbekistan and Cote d'Ivoire, as well as expanding its operations within the United Arab Emirates and beginning new projects in Mexico (retail), Cairo (retail/hotel) and Vietnam (eco-resort). Major retail completions include the opening of both the 500,000m~2 Mall of Qatar and Mega Silk Way in Astana, Kazakhstan.
