Deansgate-Castlefield originally opened in 1992 as G-Mextram stop. In 2010 proposals were revealed to better integrate this elevated stop with Manchester city centre, adjacent conference centre and nearby railway station. The development by SimpsonHaugh completed in 2015 and introduced two staircases, an open bridge and a new lift.It was described by one judge as already being 'a seamless part of the urban fabric with interesting topography'.
