The AJ's popular online series RetroFirst Stories celebrates how architects have saved buildings from the bulldozers or brought them back from the brink of ruin. The series has shone a spotlight on how architects have breathed new life into warehouses in east London, crumbling stables in Glasgow and a 1960s house in Sussex. But behind every well-designed retrofit project is a savvy developer. As a string of leading developers join the AJ's RetroFirst campaign, we spoke to some of our latest signatories-British Land, U+l, the Ethical Property Company and FORE Partnership-about the benefits and challenges of reuse on a selection of their key schemes.
