In 2003 Horace Walpole’s ‘villa’ at StrawberrynHill was listed as one of the world’s hundrednmost endangered sites by the World Monu-nments Fund. The years following the listingnwitnessed one of the most significant modernnrestorations of a historic building to takenplace in England, during which the house andngrounds were carefully studied and restored to allow them to be accessible once again tontourists, as Horace Walpole intended when henbuilt them in the eighteenth century. Sustainednattention to the house culminated in the recentnexhibition at the British Art Centre at Yale andnat the Victoria and Albert Museum in London,nto which Horace Walpole’s Strawberry Hill is thencatalogue.
