The 26th Annual General Body Meeting (AGM) of NITRA was held on 10th October 2002 at NITRA, Ghaziabad. After the introduction by Dr. J.V. Rao, Director, NITRA Sh. Sharad Jaipuria, Chairman, NTTRA Council of Administration said that due to phasing out of quantitative restrictions and quota systems with setting up of WTO, the textile scenario is undergoing a complete metamorphosis. Whole world market will be at our doorstep and our products have to compete with other countries. Furthermore, to add salt to the injury, the severe most US catastrophe a year back spell a miserable cast in the entire global business scenario. So combining these two, the transition of Indian textile industry has to be on the basis of survival or perish. So there has to be an integrated approach towards upgradation of technology, value added product development, total quality management and above all human resource development etc. In this context the role of Research Association has assumed paramount importance. They provide the impetus for need based R&D, technical consultancy and HRD inputs. I am happy to say that NITRA has emerged as a formidable force and a competent body in this direction to propagate Govt. policy objectives to a very lare spectrum of textile sector.
