Application Of Non-wax Substances In Batik

Batik is an ancient and versatile technique known before seventh century A.D. in India. It is an approach for patterning of fabrics which consists of applying to certain portions of the fabric, before dyeing, a resist paste which, acting mechanically, will resist the penetration of the dyestuff at the places where it is applied. These parts accordingly will remain in their original colour or will be slightly coloured, while other portions, not so protected, will be dyed full shades (Pellew,1998).
