Garments exporter have urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to push for fast-tracking of negotiations on the India-Australia bilateral Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement-a move which could increase garments exports to the country-during his virtual talks with his Australian counterpart Scott Morrison held in early June. In a letter to the Prime Minister, the Apparel Export Promotion Council pointed out that China was a major supplier of garments to the Australian market accounting for 64 per cent of $6.6 billion imports by the country. India's share, on the other hand, was worth just 1.2 per cent with exports of just $206 million 2019, it said.
