Beyond expectations

China's textile and garment exports climbed to a record high in 2002, according to industry officials. Customs statistics show that China exported US$56.02 billion worth of textiles and garments in the first eleven months of 2002, up 14.7% from the same period of the previous year. They accounted for 19% of the country's total exports. Of these, textile exports were valued at $18.54 billion, up 21%; and garment exports $37.48 billion, up 11.8%. expected to have hit the target of exporting $60 billion worth of textiles and garments for the whole of 2002, up 13%, once final figures are released.
