China will rise to meet challenges

The challenges now facing China were recently outlined by two prominent industry figureheads. "In 2005 the textile industry entered into a new age," Professor Zhang Yan Xin, associate professor at the Beijing Institute of Clothing Technology told delegates at the Jakob Muller Narrow Fabrics Conference held at the Carlton Hotel in Singapore, on the eve of ITMA Asia in October. "China will follow the rules, catch the opportunity and upgrade itself to become the great power of textiles." Exports of textile machinery into China have grown considerably, he revealed, from a value of US$1.9 billion in 2000 to $4.8 billion in 2004, with the major importing nations being Japan, Germany, Italy, South Korea, Switzerland, France and Belgium.
