Sustainable development is essential to ensure the viability of future generations, and to protect resources that are essential for life, according to the Aid by Trade Foundation (AbTF). Founded in 2005 by Dr Michael Otto, AbTF was initially named the Foundation for Sustainable Agriculture and Forestry in Developing Countries FSAF, but changed in 2007, and one of the first schemes to come out of the Foundation was Cotton Made in Africa (CMiA).
