UK university receives medical textile research grant

The University of Leeds has received a £1.75m grant to fund textile and nonwoven research to create new healthcare products. The grant from the Clothworkers' Foundation has funded new research equipment and a new member of staff, as well as support for postgraduate students. Chris Carr, former Professor of Textile Science and Technology at the University of Manchester, has been appointed to the team working in The Clothworkers' Centre for Textile Materials Innovation for Healthcare. The university's research into nonwoven textiles spans the development of new filters to remove impurities from blood, better continence management and ostomy products, intelligent dressings capable of improving the healing rates of chronic wounds and products to fight Healthcare Associated Infections (HAIs).
