Europe is attempting to conquer the manufacturing gaps in the supply chain when it comes to smart textiles. SmartX Europe, short for the European Smart Textiles Accelerator, is an ambitious three-year programme aimed at next-generation textile SMEs and start-ups in the European Union. Within the next three years, it will support up to 40 innovating smart textile projects with a remarkable budget of €2.4m (€60,000 per project) and one year of free coaching from industry experts to monitor the development of the selected projects. SmartX funding comes from the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme.
