Numerous studies have been published concerning the formation and definition of neps, the attempt to avoid forming them or to eliminate them and their influence on yarn and fabric quality. On survey, it was understood that more than 60 per cent of the mills have lost orders as a result of nep occurrence and that neps indeed represent the most important quality characteristics in the end product. Neps have a negative impact on carding production, the application of comber and many other spinning process. A more serious and feared problem is the unequal dye absorption which, at the most, can often only be soothed by skilled actions undertaken in dyeing and finishing departments.
