Exports of Synthetic and Rayon Textiles at all-time High

Exports of synthetic and rayon textiles touched an all time high of Rs. 7629 crores during the year 2002-03 registering a growth of 29% as compared to the previous financial year. Viewed In the context of the fierce competitive global textile scenario and the appreciating rupee; the export performance is truly commendable, said Mr Rakesh Mehra, Chairman of The Synthetie & Rayon Textiles Export Promotion Council while addressing the 49th Annual General Meeting of the Council on 29th September, 2003 in Mumbai. According to Mr Menra, exports were directed to 177 countries across the globe during the year. The highly competitive and cost conscious Middle Eart accounted tor aver 32 percent of our exports; showing the price advantages of our products. We are also not lagging behind on the quality front as the share of European Union was around 23 percent. We are also increasingly making our mark in America which accounted tor ever 11 percent of our exports. It is worth mentioning that USA has climbed up to be our second largest market with exports to the tune of Rs. 543 crores giving us a glimpse of the possibilities awaiting to be exploited with the end of quota regime by the year 2005; the Chairman added.
