Mr Dayanidhi Maran, Minister of Textiles, Government of India recently undertook a road show to Switzerland, Italy, Turkey and other European countries, with the objective of attracting investments in India's Textile Industry. India's Textile Ministry is eyeing Foreign Direct Investment of $6 billion in the next five years, as against $200 million garnered in the year 2008. The Ministry expects investments to start coming in textile machinery, fabric manufacturing, garmenting, and man made fibre and yam, technical textiles and bringing clothing brands to the domestic market. "We are expecting $6 billion FDI in next five years in the textile sector, which is going to be primarily from European countries. These foreign firms can take advantage of the economical labour and huge domestic market", Mr Maran said.
