While the development of historic buildings to house galleries has become commonplace, rarely has the theme of an exhibition resonated quite so strongly with a building's prior use than in the presentation of The Stuff That Matters at the gallery Raven Row, formerly 'two shops selling silk woven in the Spitalficlds district', as the exhibition press release explains. The 'stuff that mattered here were textiles collected by Seth Siegelaub for the Center for Social Research on Old Textiles (CSROT) founded in Amsterdam in 1986.
