This is not only a beautifully illustrated and detailed catalogue of taatit rugs (pile bedcovers made in Shetland) but also a work which situates these neglected textiles in their historical context and documents their relationship with the superficially similar Nordic rya rugs. Christiansen, curator of the Shetland Museum, makes a strong argument for her claim that these rugs are 'among the finest examples in the tradition of British folk textiles' (p. 40).
