Apparel imports of the US increased by 4.3% through the third quarter of 2007, compared with the corresponding period of 2006. Imports totaled $57.36 billion, an increase of $2.36 billion over 2006. Import quantity was 4.6% higher than in 2006, totaling 18.63 billion garments (Note: This amount is lower than reported previously due to the downward revision of first quarter quantity for woven apparel imports by the US government). Import growth over 2006 during the third quarter was slow, up only 1.1 % to $21.90 billion. Year-to-date growth is primarily due to the 9.1 % growth rate during the first quarter.
