US apparel imports edged upwards both in volume and value during the first nine months of 2013. Value of imports increased by 3.7% to $61.14 billion while volume expanded by 5.7% to 19.96 billion pieces of garments. Growth that has been strong during each quarter of 2013 accelerated in the third quarter. Third quarter imports were up 4.7% to $24.11 billion, compared with the third quarter of 2012, while quantity imported was 13.6% higher at almost 7 billion pieces. Woven apparel increased 3.6% in value to $29.25 billion. Quantity imported increased 7.8% to 5.72 billion pieces. The average price per woven garment fell 3.9% to $5.11. The value of knit apparel imports increased 3.9% to $31.89 billion while the quantity im- ported increased 4.7% to 14.24 billion garments. The average price per knit garments fell 0.9% to $2.24.
