The annual Mipcom pro-gramme market in October coincided with the publication of the second part of Ofcom's public service television review. Visiting Cannes for Mipcom and experiencing all the trials and tribulations of a world programme market might not seem to have much in common with the debate about PSB ignited by Ofcom's stage 2 findings. However, I always find visiting programming markets a salutatory experience. It reminds UK producers and broadcasters alike that we operate in a virtually unique environment. For UK broadcasters and producers, overseas relationships and business are generally about trying to put together ambitious co-productions for expensive projects or about exploiting completed programmes and formats.
