Writer Jimmy McGovern and producer Sita Williams - co-founders of Manchester indie RSJ Films and two of the team behind the The Street - enthralled guests at this year's RTS North West Anthony H Wilson Memorial Lecture. McGovern, after being turned down by Williams for a place on the writing team of ITV medical soap The Practice, began his career on Channel 4's Brookside, which was produced in his home city of Liverpool. On becoming a TV writer McGovern said: "Writing novels involved too many words. I was also in the right place at the right time and Brook side was great for me."
