摘要

CTIA leaders say they hope a new multimillion-dollar consumer advocacy initiative will help it "wage war" at the state and federal levels to lobby on pressing issues that face it this year, including a rewrite of the 1996 Telecommunications Act, increasing taxes levied on its customers, and state efforts to impose regulations on carriers. "Our goal in an advocacy campaign is to enlist what I believe is the most potent weapon that we have in our arsenal to effectively wage war in the policy battles that are affecting the wireless industry, and that is our 174 million consumers in the country, many of whom are willing and able to be advocates for [the] wireless industry," Steve Largent, CTIA's president and chief executive officer, said during a Jan. 11 briefing for reporters.
