FCC Retains May 2007 Deadline For Broadband CALEA Capability

In a long-awaited order aimed at addressing unresolved issues from last year's broadband wiretap capability order, the FCC has said it will not at this time intervene in the efforts of industry standards-setting bodies to develop capability standards for law enforcement surveillance assistance. The agency also has reaffirmed the May 2007 deadline for facilities-based broadband Internet access providers and interconnected voice-over-Internet-protocol (VoIP) providers to comply with electronic-wiretap-capability requirements.
