Utah Governor Signs 'Texting-While-Driving' Ban

Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman (R.) has signed into law legislation to ban the use of a handheld wireless communications device for text messaging or e-mail communication while driving a motor vehicle. The new law will go into effect on July 1.rnAccording to HB 290, which was sponsored by Rep. David Clark (R.), the new law will make texting or e-mailing on a wireless phone while driving a primary offense. The new law makes texting while driving a Class C misdemeanor and calls for fines of about $70 for a first offense.
