Prospects For Aws-3 Order Dim In Wake Of Commissioner Objections, Hill Pressure To Focus On Dtv Transition

The prospects for FCC adoption of an AWS (advanced wireless services)-3 order circulated by FCC Chairman Kevin J. Martin appear dim in the wake of Commissioner opposition and pressure from Capitol Hill for the agency to only focus on digital TV-related issues until the Feb. 17 transition deadline. On Dec. 12, Mr. Martin canceled the scheduled Dec. 18 monthly meeting - whose agenda included the AWS-3 order - after the incoming chairmen of the House Energy and Commerce and Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation committees wrote the agency earlier that day asking Commissioners to spend their time on the DTV transition.
