Reports Look at Out-of-State TV, Statutory Licensing Phaseout

About 99.98% of the 117.2 million households in the U.S. have access to broadcast television programming from at least one in-state station, either over-the-air or through a multichannel video programming distributor (MVPD), according to a report from the FCC's Media Bureau. The only states in which more than 1 % of households are limited to out-of-state broadcast stations are Kansas (1.2%), Minnesota (2%), New Hampshire (3.5%), Vermont (2.1%), and Wyoming (3.5%), adds the report, which was released Aug. 29 in MB docket 10-238 in compliance with a mandate in section 302 of the Satellite Television Extension and Localism Act (STELA) of 2010.
