The United Kingdom's Office of Communications (Ofcom) has announced the next steps it will take to facilitate the deployment of unlicensed devices in TV "white spaces" spectrum through the use of a gelocation database. The announcement follows a consultation the agency launched in November 2010. "In summary, we will continue on the principle that WSDs will operate on a licence exempt basis and in our view the draft structure of... [a] SI [statutory instrument] remains the correct way forward subject to further investigating a number of suggestions proposed by the respondents to the November 2010 Consultation," Ofcom said Sept. 1.
