摘要

Public safety officials want the FCC to go beyond reliance on voluntary standards and best practices for ensuring the reliability and resilience of 911 services. But in comments filed with the FCC, service providers say physical audits and other more sweeping measures would be costly and ineffective, and argued that certification of compliance with best practices would be preferable. Comments were due May 13 on a notice of proposed rulemaking in WC docket 13-75 exploring ways to improve the reliability of 911 services, an issue prompted by a January report from the Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau on 911 outages resulting from last summer's derecho.
