Verizon Wireless, AT&T Ask FCC to Nix Deal Complaints

Verizon Wireless and AT&T, Inc., have asked the FCC to reject petitions to deny or condition a spectrum exchange between Verizon Wireless and AT&T, as well as AT&T's purchase of the U.S. retail operations of Atlantic Tele-Network, Inc. (ATNI). Last month, several carriers and trade groups representing rural and regional providers and a public interest group asked the Commission to deny or condition the spectrum transactions involving Verizon Wireless and AT&T, saying that action is needed to mitigate the harm that will be caused by the further consolidation of frequencies between the top two industry giants (TR, April 15).
