Carriers,Groups Ask FCC to Deny,Condition AT&T,Verizon Deals

Several carriers and trade groups representing rural and regional providers and a public interest group are asking the FCC to deny or condition spectrum transactions involving Verizon Wireless and AT&T,Inc.,saying that action is needed to mitigate the harm that will be caused by the further consolidation of frequencies between the top two industry giants.Several petitions to deny or condition were filed in proceedings in which the FCC is considering spectrum transfers involving Verizon Wireless,AT&T,and Grain Management (TR,Feb.15),and separately AT&T's plan to acquire the U.S.retail operations of Atlantic Tele-Network,Inc.(ATM) for $780 million in cash (TR,Feb.1).
