'Patent Troll'Solutions Discussed at Hill Event

Sen. Mike Lee (R., Utah) has called for a patent system "in which true innovators do not bear all the cost of ultimately unsuccessful lawsuits." In remarks preceding a Capitol Hill panel discussion titled "How Patent Trolls Are Harming Innovation," which was organized by the Computer & Communications Industry Association, Sen. Lee said that 82% of the companies targeted by "nonpracticing entities" (NPEs) - a polite term for what are often described as "patent trolls" - have less than $100 million in annual revenues, and that half a trillion dollars are lost to patent litigation every year.
