Wheeler Downplays Impact Of Undisclosed Ex Partes

FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler told Sen. Dean Heller (R., Nev.) in a Sept. 17 letter that the Commission does not rely in its decision-making on information communicated by parties in ex parte meetings that the agency has exempted from disclosure requirements. In a recent letter, Sen. Heller, a member of the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee, had asked about "recent press reports that the [FCC] has 'encouraged' media companies to present concerns" regarding the proposed Comcast Corp.-Time Warner Cable, Inc., merger in ex parte meetings that have been exempted from the disclosure requirement.
