Senate Adds Web-Hosting Of Ads to Trafficking Bill

The Senate on April 22 unanimously passed the Justice for Victims of Trafficking Act after adopting, on a 97-2 vote, an amendment offered by Sens. Mark Kirk (R., Ill.) and Dianne Feinstein (D., Calif.) that would make it a crime to knowingly advertise a commercial sex act with a minor. The Center for Democracy and Technology said the amendment threatens free speech online by allowing "prosecution of online advertising sites and social media platforms that traffickers use to post ads."
