Justices Appear Undecided in Challenge Of State Mandate to Collect Online Sales Tax

The U.S. Supreme Court heard oral argument on April 17 in a case in which it was being asked to decide whether to overturn a 50-year-old precedent that states couldn't require sellers with no physical presence in the state to collect sales taxes or to leave the earlier ruling in place and leave it to Congress to address the issue. The oral argument offered scant evidence of which way the court was leaning.
