ITXC and iBasis, two US carriers using the public internet to carry internet protocol voice calls, are capitalising on several operators' decisions to outsource international long-distance traffic to third parties. Swedish carrier Telia recently announced that it is exiting the market for wholesale international voice traffic. iBasis, meanwhile, signed agreements to terminate traffic with T-Systems, adding to a number of major alliances it already has, typically with the US RBOCs such as Qwest and Verizon, and European carriers such as Cable & Wireless. ITXC's relationships, meanwhile, are often with operators in less-developed markets, where it can fill in where operators do not have bilateral termination agreements in place.
