Even Technologies says that three US independent local exchange carriers (ILECs) will launch IPTV services based on its video-compression technology in 1Q07. Crucially, the US vendor says it hopes that these relatively small deployments will prove to tier-one and tier-two operators that its PSI_V system can enable them to support commercial high-definition (HD) IPTV services over their existing ADSL2+ networks. A number of analysts had previously concluded that Europe's operators would have to invest billions of euros in VDSL networks in order to offer bandwidth-hungry HDTV, or face losing customers to renascent cable operators (TM, 13 Jun, 2006).
