Finland's Elisa on cusp of Baltic expansion, predict analysts

Elisa looks set to embark on a third phase of its consolidation strategy by expanding its presence in the Baltics. Under the first two phases, the Finnish operator merged its smaller subsidiaries and acquired rival Saunalahti. However, take-up of Elisa's broadband services in its highly penetrated domestic market slowed during the last quarter, leading to pressure on the company to seek growth elsewhere. But owing to its strong position in Finland, Elisa itself could soon be targeted for takeover by one of the Nordic incumbents.
