The success of Video Networks' ongoing efforts to secure funding to extend its HomeChoice TV, telephony and internet-access service from around London to across the UK by the end of the year may prove vital to the alternative operator's future. Since the company announced the rollout plans in November, UK incumbent BT, pay-TV leader BSkyB and ISP giants AOL, Tiscali and Wanadoo have all confirmed their interest in offering their own triple-plays, while NTL and Telewest plan to aggressively push their existing cable bundles following the completion of their merger. Analysts believe Video Networks will need substantial funds to match the marketing clout of such powerful brands, even though they say that HomeChoice is priced competitively and well-received by its relatively small subscriber base.
