Operators rope in mobile broadband for FMC 2.0

Operators across Europe are hoping that bundling mobile broadband with fixed-line broadband will finally deliver on the promise of fixed/mobile convergence (FMC). The region's fixed-line players have spent billions of euros buying mobile operations or becoming MVNOs, but subsequent products that combined mobile phones with fixed services have met with little success (TM, 12 Feb, 2008). BT, Telekom Austria, Vodafone and others are now betting that a new wave of bundles will prove more popular, by harnessing burgeoning demand for mobile broadband to sidestep problems that blighted the first wave.
