FCC Lifts Carrier Reporting Regs - Sort Of

Bad news for enterprises: AT&T, Verizon, Qwest and other large carriers convinced the FCC that it is no longer necessary for them to file reports detailing service quality, customer satisfaction, switching and transmission infrastructure and public network operating data. The commission released a 57-page order (FCC 08-203) on Sept. 6 saying that carriers who previously filed this data can stop turning it over. The catch: The carriers have to continue collecting data for two years, in case the FCC decides it wants to require all carriers to file the reports.
